HOME Standard 2 Spectra History FAQ

Standard 2 Spectra History Display

  • Shows PCA counts vs energy channel, summed over all 5 detectors.
  • The spectrum is displayed vertically, in the farthest bin on the right of the main panel. As each additional spectrum is added, a spectra history is built up.
  • The bottom panel shows the 16-sec binned lightcurve, to use as a reference to the spectra history.
  • This display is updated every 16 seconds, and holds 200 bins.

Orientation:
  • At the top is a bar of options controls.
  • The top panel of the display shows the spectra history, with each 16-second binned spectrum shown vertically. The latest data is on the right. Lower energies are at the top. The color represents the intensity, and each spectrum is logarithmically normalized such that the brightest flux is assigned to the 'highest' color.
  • The bottom panel shows the 16-sec binned light curve.

Options buttons:

File:

  • Save (in ascii) [remote support not yet implemented]
  • Freeze [to stop scrolling of data, select again to resume.]
  • Snapshot [remote support not yet implemented]
  • Quit [quits the window.]
Layer:
  • Xenon L1+L2+L3 [default, shows sum of all three layers of all 5 PCUs.]
  • Xenon L1+L2-2*L3 [shows sum of all 5 PCUs: {(layer 1 + layer 2) - 2 x layer 3} for each detector (approximates background subtraction)]
Combine:
  • Raw [no correction applied]
  • Corrected [gain and offset correction applied]
Statistics:
  • Total Counts [calculates total area under the lightcurve in number of total counts]
  • Counts/sec [show counts / second]
Color Maps:
  • Lots of different color mapping palettes, pick the one you like. SOF favorites are Rainbow [default], and BlueWhite.
